Christopher Finan, historian and author of the new book, Freedom of Speech: A People's History of Democracy's Most Essential Right, and Nadine Strossen, legal scholar and former president of the American Civil Liberties Union, will discuss how freedom of speech, which meant little in the United States during the early years of the republic, became crucial for expanding civil rights and remains essential for defending democracy.
