About Bernie Kaplan wrote his first song over 60 years ago. In his younger years, he held a variety of sundry jobs from dairy farming to school custodian while also performing on the coffee house circuit before forming a band that eventually played just about every kind of music from standards to pop hits, from country to disco, as well as originals representing a wide range of genres. During that time he taught himself to play flute and dulcimer in addition to guitar. After starting a family, his music mostly gave way to a long and fulfilling career as an educator, where he served as a coach, English teacher, drama director, and administrator, culminating in a 26 year tenure as a high school principal. Always, at times along the way and whenever he could, he found time to play and to write songs. Currently retired and splitting his time between the city and Sherman, Bernie is again deeply engaged in songwriting and playing flute.
