In 1992, Marianne De Silva transitioned into the culinary field from a prior 25 year career in IBM fulfilling various executive positions. The past 25 years have been dedicated to her second career -- cooking. She is a self-taught professional chef and has owned and operated her own catering business “Everything under the Rainbow.” She has also, worked in The Pantry, in Washington, CT, where for several years did cooking for both the take-out and restaurant portions of this well established gourmet food store and restaurant. Ten years were devoted to working as a private chef in homes in the Washington and Roxbury area, where she had the opportunity to cook for many celebrities, including, Tony Randall, Linda Lavin, Skitch Henderson, Steven Sonheim, Chris Maloni and more!
At the present, the popular chef spends much of her time teaching cooking classes at various local senior centers. She has offered monthly Cooking Classes in the Roxbury Senior Center for the past twelve years. With the success of those cooking classes, De Silva decided that other senior centers would also enjoy and benefit from these cooking classes - so she took them on the “road” … she had provided cooking classes at 10-12 senior centers locally starting in 2007 up until 2014, and presently conducts classes at Roxbury, Woodbury and Bethlehem.
Additionally, as well as teaching private cooking classes (In-Home Cooking Class Parties) in the privacy of ones own home in the evenings and on weekends, she keeps extremely busy with her successful catering business, New Adventures in Cooking.
During her down time she volunteers at the Roxbury Senior Center where she is involved in providing lunch once a month in a Weekly Lunch Program - "Soup's On”, she also educates all volunteer cooks in health/cooking regulations for this successful program. On a monthly basis she’s administers a Senior Luncheon Program every third Wednesday of the month serving at least 35-45 seniors a delicious meal. In the past, De Silva was the “culinary director” for the Friends of the Roxbury Senior Center, a group that financially supports the Roxbury Senior Center through fundraisers. She enjoys her lovely home in Roxbury, CT and spends lots of time in her beautiful gardens, and cooking/entertaining her friends!

Educational, Cultural and Social Programming for Everyone
Parent/Child Pair Per Class: $20 Members / $25 Non-members
This is a four week series of classes designed to bring parents and children together in the kitchen as they learn about nutritious foods and create delicious dishes that are true works of art! Artful Cooking Together offers families a new way to think, play and create together to promote healthy eating, parent-child connection and sense of family.
Each child and adult pair will create seasonal dishes, utilizing fresh ingredients with the assistance of our experienced cooks. At the end of class, participants will be able to enjoy the delicious foods that they made, family style. A special guest photographer will teach the group how to take great photos of their food. Participants will also be able to take home the recipes and photo prints of the dishes that they have prepared!
